Peridot is an ancient gemstone, originally called “gem of the sun” by ancient Egyptians. Peridots exhibit crystal clear greens ranging from lime to golden grass green; all of which are beautifully set off in sterling silver, 14k and 18k yellow gold peridot ring settings.

The glorious green color comes from the element, iron, which is intrinsic to the gemstone. This means that the iron constituent of the gemstone is not an impurity, but central to the chemistry of the peridot. This means that all peridots are green, rather than exhibiting a range of colors (such as tourmaline), although peridots do come in a range of green shades.

Peridots have no inclusions. This means that they are always “clean” crystal gemstones. This characteristic makes peridots very suitable for setting into fine jewelry, such as rings.
